I Get Things Done with...

January 19th, 2008

Vitalist. This is my folksr.de vote for the poll What electronic system do you use to Get Things Done? I just created.

I've actually tried a few GTD systems to one extent or another, and all of them have advantages and disadvantages. Vitalist doesn't work perfectly for me, but it does have some really useful features.

I will probably review the system I use every year or so - I was astonished how many new online systems there are around that I'd never heard about. You might want to check out the poll and see if it throws up some new ones you haven't seen (I didn't label which ones are web and which are desktop, though).

I have recently been sick to death of PacificPoker.com emails. After clicking the unsubscribe link in their spam^H^H^H^H newsletter for the fifty thousandth time, I can say - without hyperbole - that I was not very happy. My festive spirit somewhat dampened by yet another promise of a chance at the $75m dream ticket, I sent them this rather terse email:

Subject: TAKE ME OFF YOUR MAILING LIST
From: <my address removed for spam prevention>
    Date: December 27, 2007 11:50:19 am GMT
    To: support@pacificpoker.com

I have lost count of the number of times I have tried to
    unsubscribe. Please remove me IMMEDIATELY

Their reply is priceless...

Seeing as it's the theme for today...

Nothing like a good dose of cynicism. No idea where it came from. I'm pretty sure it's not a screenshot of my profile, but I'd be hard pushed to tell it apart.

Oh, and is it me, or is that Jennifer Aniston on the left, taking a different sort of modelling contract?

Well, kinda.

I've been following the Getting Things Done process for a month or so now, and it has pretty much transformed the way I work. I've bought pretty much every intray Tesco has had in stock - twice - and stacked up with foolscap files and white labels. I can say I am never wanting of anything from Staples, because I bought half the shop last time I was in there.

But the relatively small cash investment has already paid itself back in time at least five times over.
